37. YAPI – TURKEYBUILD Istanbul welcomed 106,537 visitors!

With the many international events and business opportunities on offer,this year’s construction sector summit YAPI – TURKEYBUILD Istanbul, became yet again a focal point for the industry…
The largest exhibition in Turkey’s construction sector, YAPI – TURKEYBUILD Istanbul took place from 6 -10 May 2014 at the 81,000 square metre Tüyap Convention Centre in Istanbul. It brought together products and services from 1,150 companies and attracted 106,537 visitors over its 5 day run. As the main
summit in the building & interiors sector it displayed a wide range of state-of-the-art product innovations and technologies.
A comprehensive business programme also ran alongside the exhibition, focusing on ‘New opportunities in the Turkish construction sector’ the benefits of participating companies, the sector, and the Turkish economy were all met with great interest.
As well as its business programme, the exhibition hosted a number of award ceremonies. “The Golden Plumb Building Material Award” was presented to the company displaying the best construction products of the year, and the “Golden Magnet Stand Design Award” to the company with the best stand design.

Organized by YEM Exhibitions and having become a summit for the construction sector for 37 years, YAPI – TURKEYBUILD Istanbul was held in Tüyap Fair Convention & Exhibition Center between May 6th -10th, 2014.
With its international events and business opportunities it offers, this year’s construction sector summit, YAPI –TURKEYBUILD Istanbul, became again the center of attention for the sector. Enhancing its influence and its contribution to the sector with each passing year, the exhibition hosted thousands of different products, new
technologies and services. The exhibition was held in an 81.000 square meter wide venue, consisting of 12 halls and an outdoor area, participated by 1.150 companies, and visited by a total of 106.537 guests.
YEM Exhibitions General Manager Burcu Başer, emphasised that YAPI – TURKEYBUILD Istanbul was not just an exhibition, but a business platform, and underlined that the preparations for the exhibitions were yet again carried out meticulously throughout the year, which has been the key to their 37 years of success. Referring to the importance of international participation, Burcu Başer added that this year they welcomed South Korea as part of the “Guest Country Project”, the aim of which was to create an association between the South Korean and Turkish construction sectors; two important players in the global construction market; providing a substantial platform for possible collaborations in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
Both “Guest Country South Korea” and the “South Korea – Turkey Construction Forum” were met with great interest by participants. Organised as part of the Business Development Platform of YAPI – TURKEYBUILD Istanbul, South Korea was welcomed with the aim of creating new, country-oriented associations and effective strategies, thus contributing to the enhancement of the activity of the Turkish construction sector in the global arena.
The forum was opened by the speeches of YEM Exhibitions General Manager Burcu Başer, TMB (Turkish Contractors Association) Advisory Board Member Cihan Candemir and South Korean Consul General of Istanbul Tae-Dong Jeon where the main topic of discussion “Is South Korea a fitting model for Turkey?” was brought
forward for discussion.

Moderated by YEM Strategic Marketing and Business Development Coordinator Banu Uçak, the South Korea –Turkey Construction Forum witnessed the views and evaluations of Economist Dr. Can Fuat Gürlesel, The Ministry of Economy, European Union Directorate General, International Trade Expert Çiğdem Şamiloğlu Erkoç, The Director of ICAK – International Contractors Association of Korea, Hyo-Won Kim and President of TURKOR –Turkish & South Korean Businessmen Association, Ufuk Akalın, on matters such as the construction sectors of the two countries and possible collaborations.
The best product in the Turkish construction sector was chosen!
The award ceremony for the 22nd Golden Plumb “Building Material Award”, given as part of the YEM Awards Project, was held during the Opening Ceremony of 37th YAPI – TURKEYBUILD Istanbul. Kalebodur Ceramic Industries Inc. was awarded this year’s Golden Plumb ”Building Material Award”, with their product “Kale –
Aquasmart Wall Hung WC and Integrated Wall Hung WC Installation Kit”, while the Silver Plummet Award went to the General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration, with their product, “Matbor”.
Golden Magnet Awards for the best stand designs were presented!
Golden Magnet Stand Design Competition, a tradition of YAPI – TURKEYBUILD Exhibitions, were presented at a ceremony organised during the exhibition. First place went to the “Artstone” stand, designed by Artstone’s own İbrahim Naç, and applied by Artstone. Second place went to “Poncebloc Madencilik ve Yapı Elemanları” stand, designed by Architect Bertan Koyuncu, and applied by Mood Mimarlık. Third place went to “Dendro Parke” stand, designed by Architect Atıl Beçin, and applied by Oğuz Bayazıt Mimarlık. An Honourable Mention award was given to “ASPEN Yapı ve Zemin Sistemleri” stand, which was again, designed by Architect Atıl Beçin, and applied by
Oğuz Bayazıt Mimarlık. And The YEM Special Prize went to “Roto Frank Yapı Mekanizmaları” stand, designed by Architect Murat Kuzgun, and applied by Arp Mimarlık.
YAPI – TURKEYBUILD Exhibitions will continue in 2014 with TURKEYBUILD Ankara’s 27th edition, taking place between 23rd to 26th of October, and TURKEYBUILD Izmir’s 20th edition taking place, from 6th to 9th November.
