Building bridges – Road Expo Scotland 2015

Scotland has a small population but an extensive road network. With its towns and cities scattered across a large and diverse area there’s always demand for maintenance and improvement of existing roads and construction of new ones, and for anyone involved in building transport infrastructure this is a market you should definitely be paying attention to. Projects in Scotland are open to UK and international contractors so it’s well worth taking the chance to introduce yourself to the market. Road Expo Scotland 2015 is that chance.
More than a hundred exhibitors are already confirmed for this year’s Road Expo Scotland, so the display areas will give you the chance to see the latest in road materials and furniture as well as the full range of heavy plant – there’s plenty of space set aside to let you get your hands on it and talk to the experts about what it can do, plus an indoor demonstration area. Products will cover traffic management as well as road construction and repair, so this really is a one-stop shop for anyone involved in transport construction. Exhibitors will include Alba Traffic Management, Ritter and Instarmac along with many other leading names in the business.
Road Expo Scotland is also an invaluable opportunity to hear from, and talk to, a wide range of industry experts. There will be twelve hours of CPD-certified seminars hosted by Transport Scotland, covering everything from driver safety to maintaining the Forth Road Bridge. In between sessions will look at urban roads, pothole repair and business planning. There’s something for everyone in this excellent programme. It also gives you the opportunity to talk to Scottish planners and regulators, fellow contractors and potential clients about what’s new, what’s coming and what could be done better.
The event organisers are making a big effort to point out its networking potential and they’re absolutely right – although the agenda is focused on Scottish projects the people you meet will open a lot of doors throughout the UK and beyond. Scotland’s weather and terrain make it a challenging environment for contractors and experience here is also likely to be valued in your future projects.
The venue for Road Expo Scotland will be the Royal Highland Centre in Edinburgh, and the event runs from 4-5 November. The Centre can be easily reached by car or rail, and is just a few minutes’ walk from Edinburgh Airport. Local hotels can be booked through the event website, which also invites you to register online.
