Taylor & Braithwaite sell its largest ever Hyundai to DSB Engineering

The 52 tonne machine has just completed its first week in operation working on one of Cumbria’s most exciting developments – the £12 million Carlisle Airport Stobart air scheme (part of the Stobart Group). Construction of the Airport’s new distribution centre started last week with passenger flights scheduled to commence next September, to Dublin and London. In less than a year, the site will be transformed by the creation of huge freight distribution depot, 790ft long by 495ft wide.
“It’s an exciting project to be working on,” said David Bainbridge, DSB, “We are delighted to be one of the contractors’ onsite. The operator on the new R520 Hyundai is usually pretty neutral about machines but he has said that this one is ‘Spot On’. This is a very good indication of the machines ability!”
DSB is a family run business, started by David Bainbridge around 10-years ago – David was once a Stobart employee before he decided to go it alone and start his own company. DSB now has twelve employees and runs a fleet of six machines – five of which are Hyundai. 80% of DSB’s work is railway contracts and 20% are civil engineering jobs such as the current Carlisle Airport revamp.
DSB’s first Hyundai was R210LC-7. Taylor & Braithwaite went to see the machine in action – the company was so impressed with it that T&B took on the Hyundai dealership for the area. Since then DSB has purchased all its machines from T&B. The fleet comprises the new R520LC-9A, an R235 Long Reach – which is the only one of its kind and DSB had it adapted from a standard R235 – it’s now a long reach zero tail swing machine. Also in the fleet are R145LC and an R55.
“In this area Taylor & Braithwaite and Hyundai really are very very good – the best of the bunch,” said David, “I have yet found a dealer and also a product to match T&B and Hyundai – definitely a winning team!”

What Hyundai say about the R520LC-9A

Several improvements and innovative hydraulic system technologies make this 9A-series excavator fast, smooth and easy to control. Build to offer a precise machine response, optimal performance and maximum productivity, this powerhouse excels across the board. Its new patented hydraulic system features automatic boom vs. swing priority, automatic power boost for extra power and improved arm & boom regeneration for higher speed and better efficiency. The R520LC-9A is powered by a proven, reliable, fuel efficient, low emission and low noise Cummins Tier 4 Interim & EU Stage IIIB engine. Special attention was paid to operator safety; a new steel tube construction raised the level of protection and increased durability. To top it off, all windows consist of safety glass.
