Neumünster. – After six days of the 58th NordBau trade fair, construction workers take the lead again – modernization work on the Holstenhallen visibly continues again without hindrance. 70.400 domestic and international visitors saw this year´s Northern Europe's largest compact construction trade fair in Neumünster with over 900 exhibitors. As in  previous years, the same area sizes were occupied at the outdoor area (69 000 qm) and the halls (20 000 sqm) and therefore  fully booked every year since 2001

Dirk Iwersen, head of Holstenhallen, described the construction fair, during the construction and remodeling work, as an "open-heart surgery, which ran without complications."

This way guests and visitors were introduced to the first impressions of an architectural ensemble consisting partly of monument-protected building elements and modern materials combining cost- efficiency, climate protection and well-being for the users. “The themes that have determined for years all aspects of our construction trade fair in Neumünster are reflected in our new building,” Iwersen continued. This year's hot topic “Build safe – live safe” was also a part of this complex and proved to be very popular among the  visitors. To a great extent, employees of housing companies and municipal authorities took advantage of the  multitude of opportunities on gathering information about this particular topic at the NordBau.

The “Qualitätsgemeinschaft Sicherungstechnik Nord” QSN  (association of quality security technologies North) and representatives of the “Landespolizeiamt” (regional constabulary) placed  burglary prevention in the forefront – a current topic, since the number of burglaries has risen again in Schleswig-Holstein.

A central information stand  offered both counseling and a database related to healthy building materials and for trained trade businesses a comprehensive overview of the topic " healthy living construction "

The half an hour impulse training course in “load safety” had large popularity. Approximately 150 visitors combined their visit with an impulse training course and praised this extra service and  its´added value at the fair.

Among others, they gained knowledge of legal guidelines for antislip mats and info about  the angle at which the lashing straps should be attached. The information was provided by specialists of the training institution DEULA.  Across the trade fair further safety-related events took place within the framework programme. These included the training activity “Work safety in transition”,  of the “Berufsgenossenschaft  Bau  Hamburg” (German Social Accident Insurance Institution for the building trade – Hamburg), the conference “Protection against burglary” in cooperation with “Sicherungstechnik Nord” (Safety Technology North)   and the regional constabulary, the “Fachforum innovative Dämmstoffe” (Expert forum on innovative insulation material) of the “Arbeitsgemeinschaft für zeitgemäßes Bauen” (work group for contemporary  building)  as well as the Neumünster Fire Protection Symposium of the Interior Ministry.

Novelties of the year, as well as national and world wide premiers of construction machinery and equipments were showcased by producers and dealers in the open air exhibition area. The focus was , among others, in various techniques such as hydraulic based hybrid drives, clean and effective combustions or load dependant control of ventilation and engine cooling systems, to name just some of the manufacturers’ variants, meaning energy efficiency and fuel savings for companies and users. Furthermore, in developing new technologies, the unity of man and machine is increasingly important for a successful construction process. Only when the operator feels well and finds comfortable work ergonomics, together with high security standards, is it possible to reach best machinery performance in demanding construction tasks. These needs of the operators have always provided input for discussions at the stands between the industry representatives and visitors.

Already at the inauguration of NordBau, opening speakers such as Torsten Albig, Prime Minister of the State Schleswig – Holstein, pointed out that a well functioning road transport infrastructure in northern Germany is becoming increasingly important for the European economy and the growing metropolitan regions Hamburg and Copenhagen. Per-Poulsen-Hansen, The Royal Danish Ambassador in Berlin stressed that Germany remains also for the future the largest export market of his country, therefore an appropriate transport infrastructure is of the highest priority. This applies also to the entire North European region.

Prognostic maintenance and development of the infrastructure for growing goods, energy and traffic flows have been neglected in the past and must now be recuperated quickly. Thomas Echterhoff, Board Member of the Main Association of the German Construction Industry, also pointed out in this direction. He named the woeful state of the  bridge “Rader Hochbrücke “, and the half closed Rendsburg Channel Tunnel as the most urgent construction projects. The locks on the Kiel Canal were also included, even if they are basically only industrial monuments.

The 59th NordBau in Neumünster, which also will contain complex construction topics, takes place from 11 to 16 September 2014.
